The only things that will be optimised for 5K will be the desktop, and the apps that are installed. They potentially might try and get 5K designed apps, but I highly doubt it. The fact of the matter is that there's no content to make 5K worth it.

Especially considering there's already 8K content and tech.

Well people need to have their 4K and 5K monitors before anyone bothers making stuff meant for them so

Well, they could have released specifically monitors for developers, similar to the Oculus dev units. The idea that people will have to pay more than $2600 for some weak hardware plus a 5K monitor (with a pretty poor screen size)...I don't think the adoption rate is going to be fantastic.

Well I mean, arent macs media computers? It would make sense for video editors and artists to work with high resolutions.

I think what apple are doing is a good idea. Launch 5k, media people will buy it to work and some apple fans will buy it becuase its apple. This will show there is interest in 5k and drive development a bit

From that perspective, yes, it's a good ideas, seeing as they're doing the same with the Oculus Rift.

What I don't get is the way they're launching 5K. They're forcing you to purchase a fairly expensive machine that doesn't have the specs to back it up, regardless of the screen resolution. If they had a range of different options for 5K, including just a monitor, that would be fine in and of itself, but they've instead opted to do their traditional dictatorship over the hardware, and I think that's going to limit sales.
