Actually, people buy brand name stuff to feel or look rich pretty much all the time. It's actually been that way since, well, forever. Wealthy class people have always worn lavish jewelry and used items from renowned manufacturers in the name of social status, and today is no different. People wear giant diamond rings, Louis Vuitton purses, and Gucci leather pants all in an attempt to look wealthy and desirable. That's actually what hipsters try to fight against, they try to wear things that most people don't usually associate with wealth or status because they don't like the fact that society has those items. Avoiding buying iPhones because they're desirable (make people feel / look rich) is actually much more hipster than succumbing to the mainstream (i.e. teenage girls) and buying the phone.

Really? I see girls drop their android phones and the back cover comes off all the time. It actually sucks for them because when the battery comes out the phone turns off, so they lose all their unsaved stuff.
