Author Topic: Windows 8.1 glitch  (Read 2222 times)

So I finally got around to windows 8.1 and to my dismay
I updated to find my desktop is completely black with no task bar. All the start up programs start up like hamachi and what not. Start button doesn't work, and the screen for logging in to my user comes up but once I'm logged in the screen goes black.
Can't get a screen shot because, well, my computer doesn't work, so here's a low quality camera phone picture :)

any help would be appreciated

I dunno if explore.exe for Windows 8.1 is a thing, but that might be it.

Can you still enter Task Bar?

No, I can't do anything besides move my mouse around and open Ctrl alt delete. when I try to open task manager this happens.

sounds like a virus, did you try safe mode?

dude what the forget did you download. that's some nasty stuff.

restart your computer and boot into safemode (F8 or Shift+F8) and see if it works.

attempted starting in safe mode. Immediately
after the splash screen my computer made a loud beep and then loaded windows, signed into my user then went immediately back to the blank black screen.

Do you use a dual BIOS?

The beep is basically comfirmation everything works.
It is the POST doing its thing, but I don't know why it would beep after the splash screen.

Well, I would suggest you use some sort of Rescue CD like the free one Bitdefender provides.

I really doubt that's POST if it's after the splash screen.

You'll have to re download windows 8.1

The only reason a computer beeps is for the POST code.

will redownloading windows wipe my hard drive? or will I keep all the stuff I have on it

Maybe it's something to do with his BIOS software then. Most things usually do POST>SPLASH>BOOTUP AFAIK, but I guess this is otherwise.

How many times did it beep, anyway? And what's the BIOS model?
