Author Topic: Is Windows 8.1 a good upgrade?  (Read 3143 times)

Will copying over my steamapps folder break any games? Just wondering. If it does, I will just reinstall the games and move on. I want to mention I have the developer preview of Windows 10 on a virtual machine and it is pretty cool. I'm probably just going to upgrade to 8.1, and I believe when Windows 10 comes out they will reduce the price for 8.1 users so I can just upgrade without paying over 100 dollars for the upgrade.

Windows 8.1 looks more modern, so really there is not much of a difference appart from the menu.
...you have no idea of what you're talking about.

oh my god mr queeba
it is your choice, i understand you want to ask before you buy but dont decide because some 100 people said no or yes on vote
decide from your mind if you want to go with it
i like it, but it is your opinion if you want to like it or not, dont base it off of other's

I only really did the poll because of Damp.
I'm going to go ahead and decide that I will just try and get some Christmas money to buy it. However, I'm going to leave this thread unlocked for further discussion.

I'm just gonna repeat it again, queeba.

Windows 10 is probably going to be better than 8.

It comes out next year and you get it cheap if you have windows 7 (like 20 bucks)

There is no point in buying windows 8 for a hundred bucks when you can upgrade for a better version cheaper

you shouldn't have to pay for 8.1

it's an update for gods sake

It's an upgrade to windows 8, not windows 7, which OP has. It's free for windows 8 owners.

oh i see whats happening now

windows 8.1 is not bad at all. i love windows 8 once you get a start button replacement.

windows 10 seems pretty cool for me since they made it more desktop-y again.

I know about Windows 10 (I actually tried the Developer Preview), it's just that I really want to upgrade my OS soon since Windows 7 is losing mainstream support and it is very likely that the price of Windows 10 will be reduced for users of Windows 8.1 anyway. It is all about being on the latest operating system. I own a Surface RT I got for Christmas 2 years ago (I didn't want to wait for the pro to come out for some reason) and I rather enjoy it. I am fine with the start screen, actually.
