Author Topic: Future of the Gaming Community and Its Position in Society  (Read 1764 times)

So I'm creating this topic based on some of my recent observations.

One day my sister came up and asked me if I watched Pewdiepie. I told her that I didn't, and asked her why she was watching him, and she replied, "Because he's funny." Now this got me thinking, how would my sister be able to watch something she doesn't even care about and never has? She seemed really into his content even though she doesn't play any video games.

So what does it mean for those of us who are gamers and watch commentators like Pewdiepie or Markiplier? Is gaming becoming an even more vital part of our culture? I mean gaming has become more widely accepted and the culture has become more relevant in the past 8 or so years, but could it still be on the rise? If so, what could this mean for those commentators or commentators in general? Could there be TV channels for Twitch or for video games specifically? There is also the possibility that all this could pass in a few years, and those Youtube and Twitch personalities could be out of a job, and have to find real work.

This is why I made this thread, to see what the BLF thinks about the future of the gaming culture's rise and integration into popular culture and society. Will gaming become as common as television or will the hype calm down and we just crawl back into our family members' basements? Is it just a fad? Will commentators still be superheroes even as more and more are appearing or will they just go back to being nerds and geeks? Just let me know what you guys think.

You heard me. Shouldn't there be a reason why games appeal to small children and socially-inept losers?

because videogames are fun and for cool people and not clowns

An older article of mine which covers what I think a video game is, and by extension why they're important to society. Should be useful to you.

Squideey is a moron and a cunt. Ignore him and his outdated, stuff-flinging opinions.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I see games taking over modern teaching, and becoming more and more important to the education system.
