Author Topic: Terrible performance in GIMP?  (Read 444 times)

For some strange reason, on Windows 7 only (I've had run multiple OS' on this computer with no issues with GIMP), GIMP brushes seem to lag.
They skip frames a lot, rendering the tool useless.
My graphics drivers are updated to the latest version.
What can I do?
Nothing beginning with "snap to" is enabled
Also, the paint brush seems to lag behind. Not quite FPS loss, I draw something, and it follows the cursor rather than being instantaneous.
The lag is only in the tools, nothing else. Strange, no?

try installing a "fresh" version?

Use gimp on your other OS.

GIMP tends to be very resource eating-y.

Check task manager and check how much memory its eating when replicating your issues.

Quote from: GIMP Documentation
Any system capable of running Gnome 2, KDE 3.2, Windows 2000, Mac OS X and later versions should be able to run GIMP. GIMP's biggest appetite is for memory and how much you will need will depend on the how many images you are working with, their resolution, size, the number of layers you use and so on. As a general rule, more is better, but 128MB should be enough to be getting started with.

Seems that something else related to GIMP (such as a plugin) is causing your problem, and not GIMP itself.
