Motorola ftw, in my opinion they have the best choices for the best prices in the android phones market, you should definitely buy a Moto X, I have the moto g and it's an excelent phone for it's price range, the X is even better, go for it!

I have a first gen Moto X and it indeed is very good

Jesus, so I figured there'd be varying opinions on the forum, but it seems like everyone likes Motorola... :)

Motorola just makes amazing phones :) Also the M8's camera is 4 ultrapixels. Go here if you want to know what that means (I'm totally satisfied by it). Really you should only consider it for the great battery life and speakers; I really like the Moto X.

HTC M8 is easy to root; from there, it would be able to uninstall system apps.
Also, this is a really nice ROM if you want a lightweight OS.

Might stick with the Moto X. Two day battery life wasn't a necessity, and supposedly the X has 24 hours-ish. Thanks though. :)

Alright, so its basically iOS jail breaking level of simplicity?

it depends, there's guides for each phone.

for my first android phone i had to exploit my SD card and make all the loving planets align. for this nexus all i had to do was flash an image with supersu and the su binary.

Moto X? Easy.
fastboot oem unlock (or get the unlock code, from the website)
reboot phone, let it reinstall everything
go back to fastboot
download twrp or cwm
fastboot flash recovery (twrp or cwm)
select recovery, go to it
flash supersu
done
