The other argument was getting circular and boring. Have another one.

Most definitely not because I need arguments for Speech & Debate tomorrow. Also, the correct answer is pro.

This one of the few big debates I actually don't really have an opinion on.

I think the big issue I'd have with GMO is what exactly are all the effects of the modified product. I'm a little sceptical that it's all positive, and I'm sure there has to be hidden side effects that are either known or unknown that may be a potential health hazard.

Then again, most things we eat and drink are pretty dangerous, so it's really a question of how fast the effects will take to actually take their toll.

Can you explain what a GMO is?

I dont like the whole patenting the gene strings thing, it can forget up neighboring farms pbad.

the modified plants however are great. If it makes it easier to feed this starving world, go for it.

Genetically Modified Organism. Please do research before debating tho lol

Genetically Modified Organics

Basically, taking something like a fruit or vegetable and modifying its genetic structure in order to add, change or remove certain properties. It's like modifying the config file for a video game in order to (hopefully) get a better experience.

Ew gross, we don't need none of that stuff. It'll go crazy eventually. forget that.

Wait nvm thought it was organisms like superhumans

It's all good

This reminds me of Gattaca.

First it's our drugs, then our food, and then our children. (lol lets hope not)

Personally, I prefer food with less "artificial" chemicals/engineering.
Must be why the tomatoes in my garden taste so much better than the ones at the grocery store.
Idk.

I don't get what the big deal is. We've been tampering with genetics for millennia.
There's not really much conclusive evidence that suggests GMOs are bad for you.

Yeah basically just don't overdo it.

I'm generally pro-GMO because I believe that genetic modification has done a lot to help us gain the resources we need faster. The thing I don't like is when they're trying to use GMOs so they can abuse other things. (Example: Making genetically modified corn that is immune to pesticide, and then drench the corn in pesticides. It might not hurt the corn, but it most certainly will hurt the person who eats it, to some extent)

Hey Tristan buddy get some sleep man.  You got a big day ahead of you.

Sorry. I wasn't exactly in a position to be able to do that, and having quick access to the information from people who know what they're doing is much better.

But yeah, I was taught about this before in school. (Apparently the orange groves here in Florida actually have some sort of frog DNA for aid in winter, that or I'm just way wrong and such.) Either way, I wouldn't be opposed to it seing as how there is no noticeable downside from having genes that aid a plant added in.

I'm glad more discussion topics are opening up, however I hope this just doesn't turn into a stufffest like Derontchi's did.

Such is the life of an insomniac.

Later (after my debate) I might make this into a proper debate megathread with weekly topics and polls.

Touchy subjects always evolve into stuffstorms. This isn't stuff.
