Aside from the news being well over a few years old now, I would never go to school even if I was sick.
The whole point is to stay at home and get better, and going to school while being sick doesn't make you feel better, and makes other people sick as well.

What about the kids who are in the bathroom with diarrhea or vomiting or are asleep because of medication or just to exhausted to stay awake?
Most kids at my school will just go anyway if they're sick unless it's really bad. Where I go, you're expected to make up all homework, as well as come in after school to make up in class time.
