i could tell op would not have a detailed thought just from seeing the spelling on the title

Lol I'm sorry, i made a simple mistake in the title.

since my state is relatively close to mexico, there's alot of illegal immigration over here. as someone still in school though, it isn't much of a problem for me since almost every senior in my grade is fluent in english.

If America really wants to make an impact of immigration, how about they stop putting things in Spanish. USE ONLY ENGLISH FOR LABELS AND DIRECTIONS, ETC
If they are coming to our country they can at least try to learn our language

America doesn't actually have a national language, English is the most widely spoken but I think Spanish is second

Yeah, the US has a massive native hispanic population, so Spanish is a common language.
It also greatly aids tourism to provide signage in a foreign language.

For example you'll see loads of signs written in English if you visit France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain or almost any other country. If your country is accessible and your tourist destinations easy to navigate for foreigners then you benefit greatly from tourism.
And just consider that every country south of the USA speaks a language besides English, a lot of them being Spanish.

Right thats what im saying if you wanna live somewhere learn the language they speak there
and get rid of translated signs, etc. Then you don't really have to worry about immigration as much. People who want to migrate or move should make the effort to learn the language of the peoples they are going to be moving around otherwise they wont really wanna move somewhere where they cant understand stuff

The tourism thing is true, thats about the only reason I can think to actually keep translated signs in public places

For a lot of people it's also about keeping their culture present in public.
I don't so much care to agree with it, but I don't have a repressed culture with it's own language, so I'm undoubtedly biased.

But research a little into the Welsh, Irish and Cornish languages and you'll see how much it can mean to some people just to have a little slice of their culture out there.
And having a sign with a sentence on it two different languages can do that. It's not a major price to pay. (Even if it's stupid that I get posters and leaflets sent to me about being environmentally friendly, and they happen to be double-sided or twice the size in order to accomodate English and Welsh).

And then imagine you're a hispanic US citizen, and you and your culture make up a big part of the population. You're not a small slice. And yet you don't see your language written down much on signs and things.

L0L cool meme!!

We have no right to disallow people from coming in, when we ( or our ancestors) didn't give the natives a choice

Similarly to the above posts. White settlers didn't give a damn about learning the language and culture, we just rounded them all up and put them in reservations lol

No one alive today was involved in the trail of tears so it's not really relevant at all.

Some people want to leave Mexico because our government is slightly less corrupt, and because of the pointless War on Drugs.

This is bogus.

English is a stuffty language, but most other languages are equally stuffty in their own unique ways anno one should be forced to have to follow someones stuff unnessiarily.

Spanish is spoken in the most countries throughout the world, by that definition spanish should be adpoted as the worlds primary language and you monoliterate forgets will be screwed. :O (so will i though cause i forgot more than half the spanish i knew which wasnt much to begin with)

Idk why everyone thinks life is so stuffty in mexico? The weather is quite nice there, and the food is really good too. There are actually quite a few jobs its where a lot of business happens.

stuff I would go to mexico for retirement. No more -20 degree winters with -15 windchill @ 30mph

I'd say the main reasons mexican families go to america is because they are just tired of being where they are. They want a new life too. If mexico was close enough I would want to visit and see what its like
go back to grtb

The biggest difference is that our ancestors took the land and made it their own via force. If Mexico wants to start a war and try to annex the US, I'm all for watching them ram their heads into a wall. If they for some reason win, they're welcome to stay. After all, at that point we would be owned by Mexico.
