Author Topic: Am i the only one that wants terrains more than shaders?  (Read 3788 times)

bricks are far worse with vehicles than terrain was

yeah, i don't like waiting for thousands of bricks to load and it pushing the brick limit just to reload a feature that used to be. I would love it if badspot could update the map codes to be new AND put shaders in. Also, does anyone know that map where it was like a small living room, then a small kitchen beside it, then i think a dining room? I would love to load it on my V20 version.

exactly, if we had vehicle and player shaders which worked good with maps but how come brick shadows wouldnt work? (im saying this because of how people claim the shaders wouldnt work with terrain)
exactly. in fact, players/vehicles would cast shadows onto bricks when you took a picture. what i dont understand is why did bricks not work with the shadows, while everything else worked?

terrain is rendered first, then players, then bricks. you could change the order and probably get some results however it would mess up stuff like transparency sorting. also makes it hard to create certain crafty mechanisms (if you know what I mean)- good thing we have the stencil buffer

Terrains are what made this game unique and different from other games similar to it.

list those games to us now.

and bare in mind, you must omit games with terrains, as that was the point you were making.

Terrains are gone.
They are not coming back.

There is no point in this.

They are not coming back.
how can you say this for sure? :)

who knows what's in store for the future?

This is like, the 200th topic about terrain.

Just give up. What we had is gone. Embrace the new.

why cant you be satisfied with a clean slate

A more appropriate approach is to re-write the game on their own and provide both shadows and interior/terrain functions.

But who would do that?  :cookieMonster:
