Author Topic: Am i the only one that wants terrains more than shaders?  (Read 3799 times)

I know there were some problems with terrains and all but i would rather have the bedroom and kitchen back instead of being able to see my own shadow. Terrains are what made this game unique and different from other games similar to it. It's stil a great game, but does anyone else agree? If not, why not?

I don't want a game that looks like it originated from the early 2000's.

It's 2014 now, 10 years after the game was initially released. Considering it's still alive and well, it deserved a well polished look over those low quality and quite buggy terrains and interiors.

Not really. While a more efficient terrain sculpting tool would be pleasant, that you can recreate most of the same maps using blocks that dont have the same vehicle collision issues as terrain, I prefer it this way.

Well I've gotten quite use to the shaders now, and if they were replaced again then I feel like I would really miss shaders. The mods and stuff you can get for them make the game look outstanding

Yeah, the new stuff is awesome, but i'm not implying shaders were the worst update ever (probably the best) but i would really love to play bedroom and kitchen again. i even downloaded the v20 file and had so much fun. I guess i'm gonna have to move on. R.I.P

Shaders are alright, but maps cut the creativity down a little. Im not nearly half as much gallery builds than today's builds.

you're definitely not alone.

Why not have both?
exactly, if we had vehicle and player shaders which worked good with maps but how come brick shadows wouldnt work? (im saying this because of how people claim the shaders wouldnt work with terrain)

yes; who could stand those disgusting and outright mediocre pieces of garbage when we can have these glorious, modern shadows granted by gods themselves? who would ever want those awful excuses for cubes back?? peasants!!

[/propaganda]

(the shadows we have -imo- don't make this game look any more modern)

bricks are far worse with vehicles than terrain was

I didnt like shaders until i could run them soft when i got a new gpu and cpu.

But if it switched back to maps, what was the point of buying those parts :( well i can play other games with good graphix but still lol

i mean when it comes right down to it, if we get them re-implemented one way or another, it'll probs be with shaders lol

I would like to see terrains back with higher resolution textures and working with shadows, I can dream k?

Or have baked shadows as an option for people who can't see real time shadows on bricks

baked terrain shadows > cake map
i recall terrains being removed due to immensely bad code; they mentioned that literally every time they had to work around the terrain code so they just trashed it to make updating/bugfixing easier
