Author Topic: $10 this turns in a full scale argument very soon.  (Read 4001 times)

If the game never explicitly told you to run people over with a truck, nor is it required for you to run over people with a truck, is it still the fault of the game?
The game forces you to do torture IIRC, so that argument can't really be used.

you aren't required to play singleplayer

Plenty of games allow you to drive a truck and not run people over
Forza
Midnight club (I think it has trucks)
Nfsu2

It partially falls on both rockstar and the gamer

The game has you do a lot of violent stuff involuntarily, I was just asking a question I didn't have a good answer for myself

you aren't required to play singleplayer
That's not a great argument, since singleplayer is a major feature of the game and it's intended that you play it. And if you play it, the waterboarding sequence (and other torture methods) is something you have to do.

It's not as optional as running over civilians or setting people on fire.

I've never actually played any of the GTA games so I may be totally wrong and feel free to point it out if I am, but isn't the singleplayer experience mostly "hey there's a story but ey who gives a forget if you get bored just pick up some guns and start shooting stuff"

To me, that's what the Grand Theft Auto series is, just a giant richard-around sandbox of fun.

Really, if you are a parent, you really should not buy your immature child a game like Grand Theft Auto. If your child understands the difference between a video game and real life, you could let them play violent games. I was allowed to play Halo/Halo 2 back in like kindergarten or first grade. My parents understood that I knew the difference and it was just aliens in a virtual world.

stuff man i cringed during that scene like wtf

wait so is it bad that i didnt think twice about it

The name of the game is grand theft auto, which is a loving crime in the title. Why are people getting upset when you commit other crimes in a virtual game

Wow yeah, I really felt that virtual man's pain.

Because there's stealing a car, and then there's immolating people. They're on two completely seperate levels.

I don't agree with the game being banned on account of those more serious and graphic crimes, but I can understand why some people are offended by them.

If you're offended by something though, you just shouldn't interact with it. Plain and simple really.

Of course. I completely agree.

But these people seem to be beyond simply offended, they're disgusted by its very existence. Which is why they try to have it banned.
In reality they should be more outraged that the events and actions within the game take place in real life, since the game is only imitating. Banning the game does nothing to stop the real life events from taking place.

A guy named MiracleofSound had a great quote when he was on a podcast a couple of weeks ago.
Quote
"I always wonder how much energy it must require to be perpetually that offended in life."
Fits aptly in this scenario, wouldn't you think? lol

Honestly though, I wish people gave a damn about real events rather than focusing on the most inane bullstuff going on in modern day. We all live relatively short lives, why not spend them actually helping stuff? Seems more constructive than screaming at the top of our lungs that we disagree with things and want them gone, right?
