i'm trying to upload a 2kb avatar and it still won't work

Somtimes .jpg doesnt work, try making it a .png

Oh and the site should be able to use a picture bigger than 2kb, mine was 22kb so the picture quality isnt compromised too much

yeah 2mb is the max
2kb should be fine, try doing what jonathant said

Actually, the best thing to do is go to an online GIF maker, drag a single image of the highest quality possible and make it a 1 image gif. Then download the gif and upload it, because there are no limits on gifs

I should also mention it takes time for your avatar to change when using a GIF

It's an issue in how different programs write their file formats, and SMF being secure doesn't accept the extra information.
In the export option, disable just about every bit of information that doesn't appear necessary, such as creation time, comments, etc..
Really, I don't see a point in the extra information in the files.
Anyway, hope this works for you, it worked for me.
