Avatar will not change, and it's annoying.

I made my avatar transparent, but then upon trying to upload, it would not. So I converted it to a gif, only to find out the background was not transparent.
Are avatar uploading issues still happening? Seriously, the hell is going on?
Any way to "trick the system" so that I can fix this?

It has to be 75x75 or under, otherwise it is converted into a jpeg.
Also, png would be better for transparency unless your gig is an animation.

When you saved it as a gif did you make sure there was transparency?
