Author Topic: 1% equals 1/93 True or False?  (Read 3310 times)

It doesn't matter if you explicitly stated rounding or no rounding. Equals does not account for rounding. 1/100 =/= 1/93. However, 1/100 ~= 1/93. The ~= stands for "about equals" and accounts for rounding.
This explains best

This topic reminds me of the conundrum of how 0.999 (repeating) is equal to 1.

1% only means what you want it to mean.

AKA, everyone's wrong and right at the same time.

also, please stop typing in very
short separate rows like this. it's
quite annoying, and not needed

1 simplified = 100%, in fraction, it would be a whole number 1. if its 1/93, it would be 0.93.
Therefor 1 Does not equal 1/93

(Seriously, where the forget did 93 come from, reminds me of the 9+10=21 Vine Joke.)

1% is 0.01 exactly
therefore your brother is wrong

Is you brother the 9+10 guy?

no he's the what the heck come after six woman

= (equals) does not allow rounding because it provides an exact equation/answer.
What your bro's thinking of is ≈ (roughly equals), which isn't as exact and allows rounding.

IMO neither apply to the whole 1/93-to-1/100 thing - that's the ≠ (does not equal) sign's job because 1.00 =/= 1.07 jesus christ

Here's a fun fact, if you keep typing your text will automatically return to the next line. You don't need to add a carriage return every time you get to the end of the text input box because if you don't the text will format properly for EVERYONE. Otherwise, it only formats appropriately for you.

you two are both wrong, 1% is obviously 1/96
