Author Topic: Free BlockNet server contest (Community choice)  (Read 1863 times)

Hello everyone!
As some of you may know, BlockNet was just recently launched!

However, not everyone can afford good hosting. Some great servers are left behind due to lack of adequate hosting. So for Christmas this year, I'll be giving the community a couple of free BlockNet servers! Over the first week (Today, until the 22nd), I will be allowing anyone to build a small display on a 32x32 baseplate which showcases their idea for a server they want to host or currently host and want to host on BlockNet. After that week, I will be hosting a server which has all the showcases on display and gives you the ability to vote on which ones you like. On the 25th, the owners of the highest-voted displays will be awarded with free servers!

Requirements:
 - Only one submission per player is allowed
 - Build display on a 32x32 baseplate
 - You may use custom prints to display screenshots. (Maximum resolution of 384x384 per print)
 - Cannot use custom sound/music content on the display
 - Custom bricks and bots are OK. (Bots should be appropriately 'leashed' to the display area and not interfere with anything outside the display)
 - Custom weapons are OK for display use.
 - Custom vehicles are OK for display use. (Unnecessary use of vehicles is disallowed)

Rewards:
 - First place: 1 High Performance Shared slot (2 months)
 - Second place: 1 Budget Shared slot (2 months)
 - Third place: 1 Budget Shared slot (1 month)

When you are finished building a display, save it and send it via PM to me along with any add-ons it needs to work.
Tip: You can use the duplicator's /savedup command to save the display by itself if you have other things on your server.

I like the website! I think you should use some drop down or separate pages, because the entire website is all on one page and feels crammed up. Speaking of flexibility too, have you thought about using Bootstrap code so people can view the page (and possibly a server monitor) on mobile devices?

Since server control is actually run through SSH, and SSH clients are available for pretty much every platform ever, it's currently totally possible to fully administrate your server on a mobile device.

Neat!

I'm confused on the contest. What exactly will you be making?

I'm not the one making things, people who want to win are the ones who will be making things! Players who decide to enter will need to have built a showcase for their server on a 32x32 plate.

Ok. So if I were to host a TDM I would cut a pie slice of a bit of a map? I guess it could work for people building things. I think a gallery post tagged with BlockNet such as "TDM Frenzy for BlockNet Contest" might be better.

How long will the free servers last?

The idea behind this contest is to allow people to walk around and decide which servers they think are the best. It caters to allowing people are weren't aware of the contest to still be able to make an informed decision without any hassle. Most hosts will probably want to use prints to show screenshots of their server.

Ohh! So like this server I saw a long time ago... I forgot what it was called. Blockworld? Kind of like PAX Prime?
