Author Topic: City RPG, it's problems, and ways of fixing them.  (Read 3591 times)

We've all probably heard of the gamemode 'city RPG', and all know there's alot of problens.
So I think we should discuss all problems of city RPG and try to find ways of fixing them.

Let me start us off:

"People always spam vehicle spawns"

Well you could just limit everyone to one vehicle spawn per player, I once made a fort wars gamenode (Long lost now) where it would keep track of how many bricks you placed. This was easy to make and could easily be implemented into city RPG to make sure you only have 1 spawn.

The guideline for making any RPG is:
If you think, hey, people should not be able to do that, then restrict it by fixing the error yourself.
You have a good RPG, if you only require limited admins to tackle situational problems. Rules should only be basic and if you find yourself going into specifics in restricting something, then you should focus on fixing the error within the setup.

Agreed, I've been on a city rpg where it had 20 different rules. You should only need the basics ie. No spam. I might make a city rpg from scratch if I have enough time.

I've actually been hosting a city rpg but it's in heavy beta so i haven't really announced it yet.

Notable things I did is removed that terrible help system and replaced it with individual commands. /help list jobs is now /listjobs, same for list of lots etc and i removed the other weird lists that shouldn't exist. I also listed all and only all commands that exist.

I moved the /education command to its own infobrick, so in order to educate yourself you have to get to an education building - like a school. I also gave education levels actual names, level one is the basic skills course, level two is early high school, three is high school, some of the later levels are college diplomas, etc. I also raised the maximum education level to 10.

At first I was gonna remove reincarnation, but i actually ended up adding the ability to reincarnate yourself twice. Though it's a little buggy, it still works mostly as intended.

I enabled withdrawing AND depositing in an ATM infobrick, but the catch is, I actually made it so you can only withdraw/deposit $100 at a time. I know people could just use the atm multiple times to withdraw/deposit more than $100, but it would be slower, and that was the actual point, to make ATMS less convenient and more time consuming but still useful as a bank

other minor tweaks i did was lower the price of education and lots, and increased the cost to pay demerits to make being a criminal harder.

also you can rob banks

are these good ideas and do you have any other suggestions?

Your ATM idea is good but you will probably need it inside a building (bank shop etc) since players will get very annoyed with putting money in only to be sniped after putting 200 in.

Deposit at a ATM?
What bank does this?
You should have separate ATM and Bank Bricks. You should only be able to withdraw from ATMs.

As for education, you should have different courses with different course levels, not just a unitary education level. And jobs may require multiple courses at specific levels. For example for Medic I would require to take Biology AND Chemistry. Or I could only be a Pharmacist or something and only require Chemestry, and maybe a higher level Lumberjack or something require Biology as well because different plants and trees. There should be a flowchart made for this stuff.

that may be a problem because they were kinda meant to be easily accessible outdoors, but i could put some kind of shield around them (like a little overhang or something to cover the atm from "rain")

screw logic, this is a cityrpg we're talking about, ya know. lol

thats a great idea but would be confusing and time consuming to implement for me, i'm not really that good at torquescript yet

True, but it still makes things too easier. ATMs should be widespread and accessible for shops, but you should make it so that there are fewer deposit places (bank bricks). At the same time, depositing in the bank should only be made possible at daylight making the night dangerous but convenient for thieves and stuff like that. It would make more sense to be cautious at night, and make criminals more vivid at night. ATMs, being automated, would make sense that you can withdraw at all times, but not deposit.

Cityrpg problem: grinding. Don't you just LOVE mining for 17 hours straight, and then being killed by a reincarnated starfish who spawns with a mininuke?

Want a non stuffty job? Mousefire(1); and go AFK. Come back in an hour. Repeat every time. Grind until you can pay for education. Grind again until you can pay $700k to become a gangster.

hey hey hey
you mean every rpg ever

what if i want to make a car shop

I guess you could allow more vehicles it's just more expensive as you buy more spawns.

the only city RPG i liked was icygammas, because you got money based off of how many bricks you owned, so it was a server more based off of building instead of grinding.
