I have been thinking of trying this for a while, I've just heard that it's insanely P2W and I won't invest my time in a game like that.

Anyone who told you that is an idiot who doesn't know what P2W means. People who pay real money gain no advantage against other players, the only advantage they get is being able to progress faster. Realistically people who pay real money are worse off because they have less time to get good at the game before higher levels of skill are required for them to succeed
