well Osama Bin Laden is dead and some of the most powerful terrorists too but Like you said trillions gone to waste just to start a very crude government. Imagine Afghanistan as Germany In the 30's. Broke, need a good leader then Adolf Riddler ( Taliban ) start telling people how good their country is. It raised Morale and basically Made the Taliban the center of the state.
