Cannot validate

I play Blockland through Steam. But when I start the game, the box that usually says my username at the bottom instead says "Authentication: Validating Key" for a while before showing an error message. The error reads "Authentication FAILED: Connection to steamAPI failed (1)". Is there a way to fix this? It happens every time I start the game.

 And yes, I have verified the game cache.

I tried single player but I can't load anything cause the game thinks i have the demo version
