Author Topic: Windows 7 (64-bit) Install Disk says CPU does not support 64-bit  (Read 1309 times)

/title

I thought the god damn bit thing was Operating System based, but when I booted the CD it said "Error: You are trying to load a 64-bit software on a CPU that does not support 64-bit"

My CPU is an Intel Pentium 4 (3.40G).

Is there a way to fix this without buying a new CPU/Install disk?

You didnt mention whether or not your processor was either 32 or 64 based

"Always check the label"

Not really you should have checked what system it had first.

if you're processor is 32 bit, you're going to have to either upgrade or use windows 7 32 bit

I didn't know my processor was 32-bit.

Pre-built PC

Can't afford to build one yet, and modern pre-builts are more money.

So where did you get this one? 1985?

I didn't know they still sold Pentium 4s...

It was an old PC a school let me have.

So, you need to either buy a 64-bit CPU, or 32-bit Windows.

Or if you can't buy another copy of Windows right now, you could cheap out and use something Linux-based until you can.

Installing a new OS on an old computer might not have the best results anyway. What version of Windows did it come with when it was first distributed?

the best os it could run was probably the os that was already installed. gj, you're using a school computer

It's likely a pre-owned computer. If he even got it recently.

I was using Windows XP, then I switched to Linux Ubuntu, then I couldn't stand playing Blockland on Ubuntu so I tried switching back but it didn't work. So now I'm trying to get Win7.
