Author Topic: Simple Apartment/Office Building [V2 Completed!]  (Read 5064 times)

V1
Description
I have plans to make a smallish city and this is my first build to begin construction to add to the roads already laid out.
It's 20 floors tall (not including parking garage or empty space below building). It's roughly 15,000 bricks which will be reduced most likely by the time I'm totally done.
Please give me as much criticism and as many comments/complaints/suggestions/questions you possibly can and rate x/10. If you are going to take the much-appreciated-time to comment advice, please let me know whether you think it'd be better to have parking at floor 1 or below ground or both or in a separate parking garage or something.

to be fair most apartment/office buildings use the duplicator in real world

i smell heavy duplication
The first floor was built brick by brick then duplicated up and same with the staircase.

i smell heavy duplication

That's apartments/condos in general, I'd assume.

I like the balconies, really gives it that hint of detail.

Now if only each could be furnished by a different person...

It's so duped!
and bland
and gray.

You're so duped!

If you're going to duplicate floors you should at-least built a smooth and convincing exterior and make it separate from the interior, then build a compatible interior and duplicate up.

I'm going to furnish everyone but I'm still deciding whether to do apartments/condos or offices or both.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most apartment buildings/offices that I know of are practically entirely duped or have the same pattern throughout. For instance...my favorite building in the world: One Rincon Hill in San Francisco. It's literally the same exact thing for like 25 or more something floors then a cool-looking roof.

Thanks.
I'm thinking of changing the interior room's colors to brown trim and tan walls then the hallways gray and blue or something like that I don't quite know yet.

"i smell heavy dupcation!!"

Having it perfectly symmetrical isn't unrealistic, obviously, but it's not necessarily pleasing to the eye.

What might make it seem nicer is if one or two sides are different, perhaps having another building sticking out of them, or not being as tall as the rest of the building.
Or even if the building wasn't a square, but was a rectangle. Then you could design the shorter sides differently, and spice up the build a little bit. If you did this you could also decrease the brick count somewhat, if you were to have a side that is just wall, and no balconies/windows.

This would make a cool idea on a server, like have each player be able to have a room/apartment and build whatever in it like people have done in the past. Maybe dupe a bit more so the building is taller if it gets popular.

the only reason it looks gross is because it's duplicated with the default texture pack.

change your texture pack so the lines don't stick out and glow and it'll look better.
