If your processor can support Hardware Virtualization, download virtualbox and load some .iso files of different Unix distros and then experiment with the distros and try to find one that suits you before you make a definite choice on what to install

I have a new laptop wich runs much faster. (probably because my desktop was full of stuff) but this has better system specs anyway.
And already added you. Downloaded ubuntu because I've "used" that before and making my USB bootable right now (wich is taking suprisingly long.)

honestly just clean wipe it with windows and host game servers on it.

linux servers are too advanced for you and will most likely go over your head.

Not if he has someone holding his hand through the setup process. Ubuntu is kind of like training wheels anyway.

And not everyone has a windows install disc just lying around.
