Get a desktop jk
get medion, cheap but good laptops.

i got this really cool thinkpad but for game development idk if it's powerful enough.

i'm gonna be doing just straight up c++ on this thing next week for classes and this laptop so far is just great.

Bb if ur low on cash I'm sure we can find an arrangement that appease both parties ;)

That won't work shut up
What? Last time I checked it was fairly easy to install a different OS on a chromebook.

Right, what I mean by "it won't work" is ladios has already said he doesn't want Linux

well all my tools are already for windows and i'd hate to have to spend another few months learning all sorts of new linux compatable stuff, i was supposed to have finished my first release thing a week ago

I've gotten lightly used Dell Precisions off eBay for a few hundred bucks with dedicated Nvidia workstation GPU's and Core 2 Duos with 1920x1200 res for just a few hundred bucks. They played modern games very well.
For $300 or $400 you could get a newer model with an i5/i7 and swappable PCI-E GPU. I highly recommend them. Though dell is usually kinda cruddy their workstations are tough and very well made.

My old production laptop was a dell, it was awesome until it melted cause they designed the case poorly for how powerful the thing was.

My main thing is I don't want to have to replace it, so something where i could upgrade it easily later would be cool like you were saying. and yeah in doing research I probably do need an i5 at least.

Ah, ok. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

If I didn't need it for classes I'd immediately sell you my laptop. Problem is my stuffty 1GB RAM netbook ain't going to cut it for higher level programming courses, so I'll probably have to switch to a real computer. Hope you find something that works for you. :/
