mediacom promises me 15 mbps down and i'm getting .5 - 2
it takes around 15 minutes just to download a 1gb file
are you sure its not because of wifi

its simple guys. 3000/8 = a total of 375k per second to multitask on your entire home network.
actually it's 3072/8 for a total of still not fast enough do download anything and AT&T is terrible

3/.5 is cannot download an 8gb file in 20 minutes, i don't think my 25/5 can do that (i don't even know why i'm putting upload but i might as well)

tl;dr at&t is stuff

I feel like I'm in the only place in the world where AT&T isn't a richard to me

20-25 minutes for 8GB with max 3Mbps down is straight up lying. it's not even a matter of the technology behind it, it is mathematically incorrect.

when i had AT&T i got around 7Mbps down and like 0.1Mbps up; it was ADSL so they throttled download. you can't say "the advantage of fibre-optic is speed!!" when you're offering one of the lowest apparently acceptable speeds possible. this is the kind of thing that's just blatantly anti-consumer and abusive.

of course they're very vague and the average consumer doesn't really know what it means except what they tell them but w/e

i had a friend with 2.5/.5 at&t. he randomly disconnected at least once an hour and got 60-100 more ping on average not counting ping spikes.

forget now I'm pissed. can't I get something out of them for lying to my face about the gaming thing?

maybe. but the moment someone starts streaming a youtube or netflix video your game will forget

so it'll be fine if i play without people streaming videos? my mom pretty much only watches netflix and goes on facebook, i'll just tell her to go offline for a bit while i'm gaming.

Nope. Megabits are the numbers ISPs sell you. 100 megabits is equal to like 12.5 MB

Different ISPs can show a either, I know some uses to show 100 megabits per second to trick you. When actually that was rubbish and nothing compared to 100 megabytes per second.
