in reality there is basically nothing you can do. you couldn't ever get him to pay attorney's fees on this sort of matter, and a legal case with a lawyer would probably cost between 0.5 and 5 thousand dollars.

you'd lose like 50x more money than you'd gain if you attempted to go to court on this issue.

and the reality is, without any evidence, nothing could happen anyway,

Why did you have an iPhone when you could have gotten something more durable like a Nokia or a Samsung?

I have a Samsung Solstice II phone and its practically indestructible (Had a Galaxy S3 before that and same thing). it's been thrown full-force against walls, stepped on with shoes (accidentally), and hit against hard objects thousands of times; i've had it for 4 years and there is still no sign of damage. all i have on it is a thin stock-issue case.

then i go to school and see all these ignorant/gullible (take your pick, sometimes both) kids with $400 iPhones that all have the screen cracked up and buttons missing... and their phones are usually only a year old. it's happened to my sister big time with her iPhone5c and iPad too... (she recently got an iPhone 6 to replace her broken iPhone5c, as well as an iPad Air to replace her screen-cracked iPad2). Last year I had to get my iPod replaced because it broke and the button jammed... but none of my non-apple gadgets have ever failed me or been broken from physical damage.

So I get that it sucks that this guy did what he did, but I bet if you'd gotten a more durable phone this wouldn't have turned out the way it did.
You acting like a Samsung Galaxy or Nokia Lumia not breaking face first into tile from 5 feet up is ludicrous.

I recommend temper glass, no case required. My iPhone 6+ survived a face-first drop on the rocky road with temper glass and no scratches appeared.
Thanks, i'll try it out.

What do you guys think about Zagg HDX Protector, it has a lifetime warranty as well. http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/apple-iphone-6-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields/9412

I love how threads like these always bring out the sociopaths who think it's reasonable to assault someone over something incredibly minor or to blackmail them / do the same to them in what they deem "revenge" but is really just throwing a bitch-fit and acting like a complete child.

OP, I'd just drop the situation; you'll get nothing out of it except for more problems. Deal with it like an adult and just replace the screen and get a protector for it so it doesn't happen again. Don't let anyone or anything take this situation beyond a damaged screen on your phone, it's simply not worth it.

shut up or ill rough you up

His reason is totally viable.
I've had iPhones for 5 years, never dropped it.

yeah ive never dropped a phone in my life. there are 2 types of people really. ones who can hold onto their stuff. and the type that drops it like daily...
i dont know what kind of clumsy friend cant hold onto a phone.

im either using it (where it should be impossible to drop because you are actively holding it for use) or its in my pocket where it cant physically fall.

since it happened at school, you cant sue him for it. it becomes the school's insurance or legal problem then. and they ill just come back at you about how you shouldn't have had it with you. which is kind of legit, because you risk your own property at the school, and its your own problem. even if some friend did it on purpose to you.
