So a couple of days ago my  parents took a cat off of a man because well it was a stray cat and could not care for it so my parents took her home and well now she has the empty room in my house and well she's an starfish to everybody because she hisses at you for the slightest things such as just checking on her location or eye contact, and well my sister moved back home and now my parents need to get her out of the room.

sounds like she's not been cared for well enough by the previous owner
care for her and she'll like you

yeah 2 'lost' black labs came to our house a while ago and we found the owner, he said he didnt want them and of course we keep them (because stepmom & emotions or whatever) and now this house is being picked to the loving bone because we spent hundreds on toys and stuff which goes nicely with the financial issues already present. i wanna kill her for that but honestly what are you gonna do.

Was probably abused previously. It's learned it has to be a richard to survive. Prove it wrong.

This. Give love to kitty, and kitty will love you back.
If your family doesn't break it's trust, it will start to warm up to the person who cares for it the most.

Sadly my parents won't keep the cat because "two cats are too much work already"

So my family is going to attempt to trap her and take her to the nearest local animal shelter

Dont blame the cat for being an starfish. blame the previous owners. Shame really. Because of the hissing its just going to be killed in the shelter. shame.

It doesn't have to be taking to a shelter. Bring it to a local veterinary clinic and the chances of it being adopted out are much better.

i hate cats, thats why i got dogs, but then again, i hate them too, because they are you all...

Anyways, I have a cat which also is quite an starfish, and never moves for a hour. Touching him makes it worse.

because they are you all...
was this some kind of stab at furries gone horribly wrong

no it's even more edge- he's trying to call everyone dogs

I have an starfish 50 dollar cat that I got at a pet store. I also have a 500 dollar cat (purebred Siamese chocolate point) that I picked up off my friend, who's mom is a breeder. And that cat is the nicest, most loving cat I have ever met.
Basically saying, strays aren't the nicest but it's kind of obvious

As much as i hate to say this, considering the population of adult cats in shelters, try to get a kitten if you dont want the risk of an starfish cat.
If you raise a kitten right, you will get a loving, attention loving cat.

Your more likely to get an starfish shy cat if its already an adult. The only way to fix that is if your prepared and have patience in case a full grown cat is an starfish.

For example, my grandma had 2 cats. 1 was both shy and an starfish for good reason. Her son used to poke the cat with sticks, making it an starfish and afraid of humans.
Her other cat was a lover, but was also shy because my grandma was quiet and slow, making the cat more scared of kids and generally louder people.

She later got a new cat and this cat was neither shy nor an starfish. Coolest freaking cat. This cat, unlike the last 2, was raised with a well trained dog, making it less shy.

My cat is interesting. We got him as a kitten, and my parents got a Pitbull soon after. The cat is a sweetheart, and 80% of the time i post here he is on my lap. He is afraid of certain dogs, but not others, and isnt scared of humans. You can run up to the cat and he would be fine with it.

You just gotta raise the cat right. Dont blame the cat for being an starfish. Blame the owner.
