why won't imgur upload transparency

for the past week, every transparent .png i've uploaded to imgur has had a white background. when I save the image, it clearly shows up with a transparent background, but then adds the white when I upload it. any thoughts why ?

Well that would be due to imgur converting it to .jpg, the reason might be because the file is bigger than 1MB.

it's terrible unless you like lots and lots of artifacts in your pictures
