This ones cool - a lighter will melt an empty bottle. Apparently the core of the flame for a bic lighter is a whopping 3591 degrees Fahrenheit.

However, a full bottle will not melt. The plastic will contort, but the water inside the bottle will act as a heat sink and distribute all of the heat away from the edge, leaving your water bottle relatively intact. I suppose if you waited long enough you'd start to boil the water inside the bottle, which is basically how bombs work assuming the cap is screwed on. Otherwise, you'll lose almost all the water in the bottle before it starts to melt. But it will be too hot to hold.
