Never had money to ditch XP, finally got some.
why wouldnt you save up a little more to get windows 8.1
I have a windows 8.1 laptop and I hate the overlay and it has its bugs. Windows 7 and Xp were my favorite but I never actually had a Windows 7 computer, Just used school, mothers, and fathers computer. I like the look of windows Xp because it is simple and I am just used to it...
all you gotta do is just click "desktop" and you pretty much get the same experience..

Not even, they pretty much cost the same.

I switched to Windows 8.1 as of when I built my new PC.

Aside from some game compatibility issues which are easily fixed and the need to get ClassicStart, Windows 8.1 has so far been my favourite OS. Works great, even though I went into it thinking it was going to be an ultimate crock of stuff.

thank god i got windows 8 in time

game compatibility issues? only one i had that wasn't incompatible was GTA IV. which ones were screwing up for you?

Win8 has compatibility issues with GTAIV?

GTA IV, Halo 2, the classic LEGO games, Deus Ex and plenty more.

I use 8.1 with none of that interface modification stuff installed. I see no problem. I actually like having my shortcuts on the start screen rather than on a tiny list in the start menu. IMO desktop icons are ugly and taskbar shortcuts are awkward when you have the labels showing.

I heard that Windows 10 will be a free update from Windows 8.1. Anyone know if that's true?

WHY THO THIS IS LITERALLY THE HIGHEST RATED OS SINCE 2009 AND MICROSOFT KNOWS IT
AWFUL BUSINESS DECISION MANG

seriously though, wtf? do they expect businesses to use windows 8? i think windows 8 and 10 is specifically good for PERSONAL computers and not business computers. i cant even begin to imagine how awful it would be. now im imagining a bunch of kids at my school computer lab logging on to be greeted by all this social stuff like facebook skype contacts and stuff

10 hasn't even come out yet, the forget is your problem? And it isn't a business decision, its a contractual obligation.

This is the standard life cycle for a Windows release.

Microsoft will offer Mainstream Support for either a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product’s general availability, or for 2 years after the successor product (N+1) is released, whichever is longer.

Maybe if Windows keeps catering to personal users only, enterprise Linux/Unix operating systems will have a reason to exist. (other than servers of course)
