Author Topic: What if Blockland got it's building controls changed?  (Read 1912 times)

I dunno, after talking to a few newer guys and detailed explaining on how the numpad controls work, they just don't get it.

One guy, who said he came from Minecraft, was especially confused when he clicked on the ground and only placed a ghost brick. He was even more confused when I explained him each control on the numpad, I ended up having to build a diagram to explain it. He understood after that, but other guys were just confused.

What if we could simplify building, and make the old controls optional? Maybe a click-to-build, or something just a bit simpler?

Thoughts please.

Would you rather have keys scattered around the keyboard instead? I'm sure that would make things a lot easier...

you could remap it to the mouse.

of course this would probably make a bigger problem though.

Maybe in the tutorial it should have a picture of a keyboard and show the building controls, and maybe have it so it is a default print.

Thank you for your kind input.

Yeah, this could help. But do keep in mind a lot of new users haven't tried the tutorial (or haven't found it).

doesn't it ask you to play the tutorial when you set all your controls / internet settings up?

it should be a rather 'forced' play the tutorial before playing online kind of thing

I would rather the tutorial be improved and expanded on.

And be more noticeable.

I use the ijkloup;. instead of numpad. When I fist started I didn't have a numpad so. It took me a while to learn but if you keep practicing it's really easy.

Nope, it doesn't ask them. This suggestion has been suggested several times.

An optional alternative building system would be fantastic.

But I have had no problem building with the numpad, and I have educated noobs on how to do so with few problems as well.

That's why the keybinds exist...

It's true that the numpad is highly down-putting for newcomers, I mean a friend of mine listed that as the only issue he found on the game, but which makes it unplayable since he wanted to build.
But at the same time I think it provides a better input above any other system for those who actually know how to use it.
I think just having 2 alternative controls would be the best choice.

the tutorial button should be moved back onto the main menu like before, so players actually find it easier

I use the laptop control scheme as well- I think this should be recommended to new users over the numpad to make assimilation to building easier.

I've played both and bl's is easier and faster
In Minecraft you have to continuously move all around and build tons of scaffolding

It only works in Minecraft because everything is a block half the size of your body. There's too many tiny bricks for it to work easily in bl
