Author Topic: The Horror Genre  (Read 1207 times)

Creepy pastas, Horror movies, Creepy books, Scary stories, stuff like that. Now, Slasher movies like Nightmare on Elm street I will count because why not? they are classified as Horror but not really. If a Horror movie has kept you awake then go ahead and post the name of the movie because I need to stay up tonight...

Ghost stories, horror movies, Creepy books ( Ex, The Shining ), or anything else in the genre will be accepted but are not limited to those areas.

So here are some general rules before we get going:
1. Any FnAF material WILL not be counted because it is just jump scares, the story is semi-creepy but mostly not scary.
2. If you're going to share a creepy pasta PLEASE Link to the site instead of copying the entire text and pasting, Wastes page space
3. Creepy stuff will be counted but like I said no FnAF or jump scare games.
4. Personal stories will be accepted.

Now, Go!

The only horror I enjoyed was the Penumbra franchise. Everything else has just been cheap scares.

3. Creepy stuff will be counted

are we playing a game or something lol

Silent hill 2 is probably the best non-indie horror game

edit: There isn't anything wrong with Jump Scares in theory. Jump scares by themselves are bad. They almost need buildup before the jumpscare, otherwise it's just a cheap tactic to shock somebody.

Five Nights at Freddy's achieves a good jump scare through the buildup. You know it's going to happen eventually, that's what makes it creepy. The jumpscare itself isn't what's important, the tension and buildup is.

DO YOU THINK SPOOKY SPOOKS ARE A GAME? Uh, I don't know.

I always look back at Silent Hill and wonder if the game would be better or worse without combat which is a bit of an odd thought but still

I don't remember which interview it was, but one of the devs of the original Silent Hill said that the combat was bad on purpose, to make the player feel more powerless and less eager to engage enemies. This, along with the strange cinematic camera angles and low visibility was supposed to create a threatening and uncomfortable atmosphere. Whether or not the bad combat mechanics made the game less fun or more immersive is subjective, I guess :v

Bobby is probably the scariest enemy in a horror game I've ever seen.

I understand, another reason why the combat is janky as well is because almost all of the main characters are regular non pugilistic folk, but yeah
If they kinda went for a "you can't fight them in the first place hide yo ass" thing I wonder how that woulda played out because in that way you could still have cool designed monsters but it keeps the dev intention or something iunna it's debatable really oogabooga can't express ideas well it's been established

in essence he is a bit goofy looking but whenever you're just walking your slow self round the block and he pops up you just wish the character would run faster which is a good thing

Anyone remeber Night of the living Dummy episode of Goosebumps? Jesus, when I was 5 that thing gave me nightmares.

forget you slappy....

4. Personal stories will be accepted.

One day when I was a preteen, bathing alone, I was daydreaming and blurted out "Thank you" for no real reason.

I heard someone or something say "You're welcome" in a deep voice I didn't recognize.

Thinking about that moment makes my spine tingle.

apparently the image moves if you stare at it for long enough, like it turns creepy and stuff but I think its a load of BS
