Windows 10 will be free for 1 year for Windows 7 and 8.1. After that you will require to pay a subscription.

yeah, outpact is wrong.

a microsoft employee already clarified this.. multiple times, saying that as long as you upgrade within a year of it's release you will have a valid windows 10 license forever.

which means it will be free.

completely free. forever. unless you wait an entire year after it releases this fall for whatever reason

If the speculations really are true that it could be a free update then I'm excited

like to see Windows 8 removal of support in  a next few years.
what why?

btw that early win7 support drop

It wasn't early, it was exactly on time.

This is the standard life cycle for a Windows release.

Microsoft will offer Mainstream Support for either a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product’s general availability, or for 2 years after the successor product (N+1) is released, whichever is longer.

No I mean Win7 could last so much longer.  XP lasted like a really long time compared to 7.

Windows XP had been adapted to many, many commercial machines including ATMs and security terminals. Support was expanded because the companies that operated the machines couldn't afford to upgrade them at the time, and they petitioned Microsoft. If security, banking and other large commercial sectors had actually bothered to keep their equipment up to date (unsurprising given cost and time), then Windows XP would have been cut loose a long time ago.

Windows 7 is not in the same category, and is not used in anywhere near as many important commercial devices. Microsoft doesn't really care about its consumer clientele since they're not paying them to keep the system secure past its expiration date.

Microsoft doesn't have enough resources to manage 3+ OSs at once. It's time Windows 7 was archived.

That was extended support, Windows 7's support that just ended is the mainstream support.  The extended support fof win7 won't end until 2020.

But it still wasn't "early." I don't know why you used that word if you didn't mean it.

I used "early" referring to "potential."  Mah bad it's 4 am.

Not really. If you are running at least Windows 7 and upgrade within a year after Windows 10 is released, you get it free forever.
After that, anyone who wants it will have to buy it.
