i've heard it's actually pretty damn reliable. i'm not going to use it for self defense, i might buy it just to have it.

Same here, but how often does the police come into your room? Also you won't cut yourself unless you start playing tricks with it, and I highly suggest you make it blunt if you're going to try tricks. It's just $20 after all.
