I was well aware of the "risk" I just believe in a more natural sense of doing things. Seeing as how the baby was upside down (she came out feet first) I imagine the hospital would have wanted to cut her open and do a C-section or a number of things just to "make sure the baby was ok" when in all reality, the baby came out just fine the way she was. I guess it sorta goes with the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
Well, actually, with breech births the desire to perform a C-Section is often for the benefit of the mother, as the baby and pelvis aren't really designed to work together that way. The baby's legs can bend when it goes down and get caught, so it can cause more difficulties and pain and stress for mother and baby.
And you don't want an overly stressed baby during labour, because stressed babies can poo inside of mum, which isn't good.
Obviously there was no harm this time, and there's no desire to demand or force you to have your pregnancy/birth in a particular way, but it is really recommended that you go to a doctor prior to having a baby, if you suspect you're pregnant.
If you were there you could've had an ultrasound and then that would've told you that the baby was breech. Then they can perform a procedure (which is entirely non-intrusive) to attempt to shift the baby back into the normal position. And that's less worry on you, and makes the labour easier.
Furthermore, you get advice on pre-natal care, your midwife can go through with you about exercises to prepare for the birth, and generally just help out.
It's definitely not something you should balk at should you ever have another pregnancy.
5 pounds and 10 ounces, 21 inches long :)
That's not a bad size at all.
And not to understate the effort in a birth, but mum was lucky with her first time. She's on the smaller side (but perfectly healthy), being under 6 pounds.
