Author Topic: Wireless internet Connection  (Read 972 times)

I am upgrading my PC currently and I want to have a wireless connection.

Does anyone use USB or PCI express cards for wireless that will give your PC a good ping. I'm looking for something around the 1ms-2ms range.

I think PCI-e wireless cards have a higher data thorough rate than USB, so I would recommend PCI-E, but if you dont want the hassle of installing a daughter-board into your system, USB is the way to go. If youre going with USB, try getting USB 3.0 if you can find them, their data rate is around 5 gigabytes per sec., USB 2.0 is much slower
Also, keep what ForgetLavender said in mind

This will never, ever happen without LAN and a good ISP.
A ping of 5 in video games is the lowest they will go anyways.
I use LAN and stick to a ping of 5 most of the time.

Is it laggy for you?
Not at all. Ping of 5 is the lowest it'll go. Ping that is seen as "laggy" is usually around 100+.

Is it laggy for you?
Lag is dependant on your internet providers internet connection to your house. The USB adapter / PCI-E Card IIRC only affect how quickly that data can get processed by the computer

Would you recommend any specific products or brands?

I just use LAN connected directly to my router and I almost have zero lag.

This doesn't matter. No residential internet connection is going to handle 5 GBs. Most people are under 100Mbs, maybe 1 gigabit if you have one of the few isps offering it. Even your LAN is unlikely over gigabit speeds

I have U-Verse and its pretty fast, would getting a USB or PCI-E matter which one to buy?

Eh, true. I stand corrected, then

So can anyone recommend any products that work well for them?

use wired over wireless, it's speedier etc.
