This is a hella bump, but regarding the arch door brick (that you needed two different doors for), check out how the Skulls in work in Brick_Halloween. If you specify a UI name for the alternate state, it should save it and load it properly, and if I'm reading it right, if you specify a UI name without specifying a brick category, it will save the alternate state without clogging up the menu.
Or did you already try that?
