this one time in french last year, it was 3 minutes from the end of class and the teacher was done teaching and everything and people were getting up and putting their backpacks on etc. and I got my phone out and she took it away :/

At my school it all depends on the teacher. Some don't have too much of a problem with it, some will give a warning or two first before taking it, some will confiscate on first offense. Some teachers at my school will confiscate it if they catch you with it in your pocket, or even hear it go off from your backpack. My friend got hers taken once because her mom randomly texted her in class.

My teachers at the beggining of the school year, asks if we should allow phones in class or not. If we do, then the teacher is free to use it at his/her will. If we don't, no one is allowed to use it and will have their phone confiscated for the rest of the day + a lower grade in the conduct category with the exception of a medical problem or family issue.

why cant they just announce that they will secretly dock grades/scores if they see you loving around. and will kick you out of class if you distract others with your electronics.

then just let them do as they please. they can forget themselves over and find out in the end.
and the teacher dosnt have to deal with all the confiscating bullstuff.

My school isn't that bad. While they do confiscate phones and assign consequences for people that use their phones in class, we can use our phones before and after school. Also, one of my special areas is going to allow me to bring my own device soon. The only person who even cared that I had a phone in my pocket (It needs to stay synced with my moto 360) was my communication skills teacher (I dislike the class, it's for like special needs students or something like that) because at the end of the class when I mentioned I had my phone in my pocket he went on about how I broke a school rule, although all my other teachers didn't care. Luckily, I didn't actually get in trouble.
Speaking of communication skills, it's supposed to be for special needs students to learn about communicating with others. We have to make "people files" aka remember info about students, and we have to use this behavior scale:

The only real perk I get for being in the class is that I can chew gum we don't have to ask for it (xylitol gum) and we can get one candy from a jar at the end of the class.

my classmates don't give a stuff if they get sent out/lose points. almost all of them are failing anyways lol.

I don't think I remember any teachers taking phones away in high school. They just told people to put them away.
