Left 4 Block zombies won't attack you unless you attack them

I have left 4 block Enabled on my server. They work fine if I attack them and even attack default bots if I spawn them near one.Tthey never notice me and will never attack unless they are provoked. Oddly enough if I disable Slayer bots they work as normal, regardless of whether or not the default bots are on. But I need slayer enabled for my server. Does anyone know a fix or the specific problem that's causing this?

Left 4 block is so old and outdated it's better off to leave it alone. To quote the code for Slayer:
