Anyone know how to do this?
I have a model ready, but not sure where to go from there.
Any links to a topic or advice is apreciated.

Put a mount point on the bottom of the hat, then give it to a coder.
No, seriously. The mount point lets the hat connect to the player's head, but I have no clue on the code needed for it.

Export it to .dts format. Download the Santa Hat Add-On or any other. Change the name of servercmdSantaHatRed to yours, change all _____image stuff to the name of yours, change the path to the model in the datablock ShapeBaseImageData part.

And the mountpoint thing.

Alright, well its at least in game now, and its set correctly on top of the minifigs head.
I just need to get bots using them. the hat has to be a "default" for the bots to use it correctly(I tried but it only comes up with a blank in the selection menu and the Hat doesnt show up.)
Any ideas?
I think this topic now belongs under coding help.

You can't get the hat into the avatar menu unless you do a lot of clientside code and messing around with it. So far, no-one has attempted it.
A clientside 'special hat' avatar menu which checks the server would be nice, though.

Base/data/shapes/player/hat.txt
Add your hat name, go into shaper, add the hat onto m.dts, call the hat that name in shaper, ????, profit.
