Author Topic: It's official, my school went full wifi handicap  (Read 1007 times)

Background
My school used to have this chill wifi where all you would have to do is put an "s" in front of Http:// and you could get onto any website you wanted.  They blocked that and then people started using VPN's to get around the entire wifi.  The school blocked all of our ipads from using VPN's.  As the internet was blocked, we found some websites that weren't blocked, the websites were: Imgur (i could see pictures ONLY from Imgur and no where else), Reddit (still unblocked), and Blockland Forums (or at least i found it unblocked).

What Happens Next?
Now guess what dumb thing my school did next? They block Imgur, yes Imgur, the only way i can see pictures on BLF, Reddit and other websites, now all i can see is text.
-- Well done school, you have managed to once again ruin the internet
--- The problem has gotten so bad that people have been using personal hotspots, bringing in other tablets with 3g, and even routers

Well considering everyone has a cell phone I don't see why it's a big deal.

are people that desperate to avoid doing school work?

There not desperate, the wifi is BS: no youtube, nothing involving food, nothing that has to with organizations, and nothing that that has the words: craft, mine, games, free, or video in it

thats what people use

shouldn't be on blf and that in school though

Your not entitled do what ever you want on the internet the school pays for.
Using https to get around the blocks is an exploit and no doubt against the contract you signed at the beginning of the year.

I'm surprised that the school doesn't just put a password on the wifi

this, unless it's break for you

I'm surprised that the school doesn't just put a password on the wifi
That's a different story, the school has a teachers wifi which is like this wifi but unrestricted and has a password or course; a "guest" wifi which has a password and has every restriction the regular wifi has (I not sure why it's a guest wifi)

They haven't "ruined the internet", they've made it so chuckleforgets like you can't bypass it and mess around when you're supposed to be working or studying.

"the entire wifi"

Wifi is not the same as the internet.
Wifi is just a way to connect to a network without an ethernet cable.
