Found this in a DOC:

California
Season? Coyotes are defined as nongame mammals and may be hunted throughout the year.

Hunting License? A California hunting license is required.
Daily Limit?  No.

I'd be happy to join you.

the forget? killing in vain like that?

They are able to be hunted year-round and have no daily limit. Maybe hunting for coyotes could help him find the cat or the remains of said cat.

If you do go revenge hunting, I wish you the best of luck, Ladios.

"Outside cats" are inconceivable to me. If you let a cat out where I live, there'd be a 100% chance a coyote would eat it or a bobcat would kill it.

my cats practically live outside, but they usually come to the door when they can't find anything to eat within a day or two.

Pretty much the same here, except I live in a wooded area so a smart cat could climb a tree. My cat most likely wouldn't climb a tree though. He also isn't fully vaccinated or always on parasite treatment so we just keep him indoors.

I'd be more worried about our obnoxious irresponsible neighbors and their bloodthirsty dogs than a coyote or bobcat though.

bump.

How ya holding up, Ladios?

try setting out bait-esque things

like catnip, catfood, water, etc

if he's ok he'll have to find water eventually and i'm sure he'll come back to the 'safe' spot he knows of when that time comes

trust me, setting out things like that and waiting (looking doesn't hurt) is a really good decision, my snake got out multiple times (like when he was smaller then a shoelace) and setting out a heat pad, his moss and water got him back every time

My parents have 6 outdoor cats and theres Coyotes around there all the time. They've only had one cat actually get lost on them in thee 22 years of living there. Cats could probably get away from a coyote 99% of the time anyways.

Jeez, that's awful. I know how it feels to have a cat that's missing.

When I was a toddler my cat Athena ran off, after a while she was deemed dead :(

It was sad, I still think about it today.

My best advice would be to keep searching. Maybe set some food, water or your cats favorite treat. Maybe set a camera outside that's aimed at the dish (or whatever you put out)

Best of luck to you, Ladios.
