White kind of vinegar? Balsamic? Cider? Wine? White?
I'm going to assume white because you probably would have specified if it was something else

I don't see how a clear liquid could stain like that. I'm thinking it may be something like whatever coating was on the wood being stripped off. Does the affected surface feel any different?

Alcohol vinegar. It's a ceramic tile. Its texture is rougher than the rest of the tiles. It gets coated in clear wax daily. Those red/yellow british railroad-styled porches.
