Author Topic: Apple is working on tech for a car  (Read 2702 times)

oh god, I can see it now
they're going to use their own stuffty maps app and loving drive into trees and stuff

lol that was actually good
Also straight out of the Reddit thread I linked in OP. :\

self driving cars take all the fun out of driving
^
I'd like to maintain control of my vehicle. In the age of tech where anything can get hacked, some sort of self-driving internet car is a bad idea.

Chances are very good that the only important part connected to the internet will be the GPS. While this getting messed with would certainly be an inconvenience, nothing's going to happen, because the car still isn't going to drive itself off the road.

Its all fun and games until the GPS coords get scrambled

why don't we just skip ahead and build teleporters already
then we don't have to go outside in the cold ever again.

Google had already been working on this for years. And it will likely be better

No more medical complications, no more people falling asleep at the wheel, super-human reflexes (I mean, lol, it's controlled by a computer). As long as the GPS is the only thing connected to a larger network it's fine with me.

of course technological cars have gps's and tvs and probably drive way better and we'll probably have way less car accidents

on the other hand they can be hacked and drive you directly into other drivers and kill everyone

you have no idea how difficult "hacking" something like a gps unit and controlling the car while overriding the inevitable safety measures and various fail safes the car has in place, right?

All you need is physical access to the car and knowledge on how it works... Not that difficult to come by if you have the resources. It's been done before, go look it up.

Self-driving cars will allow us poorcigarettes with manual transmissions to dragrace on highways without scared-cigarettes reporting us or getting our plate no. Hurray for self-driving vehicles!!
