Author Topic: While on a server, sound bugs out, shortly follow by a crash.  (Read 3820 times)

So yeah:

- Doesn't seem to be directly related to OpenAL
- Having OpenAL/Sound on just allows me to hear specifically when it breaks, and after it breaks doing anything outside the blockland window will crash the client (not strictly alt-tabbing)

It could still be OpenAL related. Have you tried reinstalling with a new and UPDATED open AL? It says you are running version 1.0 when you need version 2.x

You'll need the OALInst.zip for Windows

If not, it could be an issue with your nVidia settings? Try using the best performance setting for your card

Tried the download you provided, didn't work.
and my nvidia settings haven't changed between when my game was working and when it wasn't, don't think that has to do it with. Set it to default settings just to check, still nothing.

Hmmm. That's strange. I don't want to say it's hardware failure because your specs seem to be pretty damn good. I guess you could try the following:

1) Delete the cache.db in the Blockland folder

2) Lower your screen resolution (1024 x 768 is optimal)

3) Run Blockland in 800x600 or windowed mode and then try alt-tabbing

Do any of these resolve the issue? If not I am sorry; just trying to help.

oh stuff you handsome motherforgeter, 800x600 in windowed mode seems to work excellently.
why is that?

Well stuff, interacting outside of the blockland window still crashed it, but it took way way longer than it usually did.
i also don't recall sound breaking the entire time i was playing.

Probably because Windows 8 is more resource intensive than Vista/7. I am guessing your screen resolution combined with the high resolution of the Blockland window was doing some weird stuff to your system (eating memory) when you alt-tabbed back to the desktop or rendered another window. You could probably play in fullscreen just by lowering your desktop resolution, although I'm still not 100% sure.

I find it strange your system can't handle the resolutions because your PC seems pretty powerful. I would definitely have to blame it on Windows 8 being a resource hog though. Unless you really enjoy 8, you might want to consider switching back to 7 for performance sake. I am glad I could help :D

I don't think it has to do with windows 8.1 though, i didn't have this issue when i installed windows 8.1, it's only a recent thing.

Have you recently changed your desktop resolution? Have you recently installed any programs that may be effecting your computers performance? You may want to download CCleaner and scan your registry for errors. I am running out of things to think of. lol.

How long after you installed Win8 did this start happening?

Baddy we need help here O.o

I did a bit of research and this was a bug that was supposedly fixed?

Quote from: Badspot
Blockland r1486
Fixed alt + tab not working under windows

and more recently

Quote from: Badspot
Blockland r1918
Fixed DIERR_NOTACQUIRED keyboard input failure if you alt+tab while steam overlay is up.

It could still be OpenAL related.

The alt+Tab crash has nothing to do with OpenAL iirc. I used to have the same crash issues, and that's why I no longer play in full screen. However I haven't found the cause for that.

Tried CCleaner registry scan, fixed the errors, still nothing changed.

Few things i recently changed with this computer:

Added a second monitor, was fine when this change occured.

One thing i did though might be the problem, i purchased Max Payne 3 and kept getting this stupid glitch where it'd randomly pause constantly, even though i wasn't pausing.
Were a bunch of things i tried doing to fix the bug, but i undid most of the changes reccomended.

I tried updating intel drivers via http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu because someone reccomended it somewhere.

don't know if the new drivers could be the problem or something.

so i quit blockland via console a few minutes and it crashed windows.
superb

Alright, new update:
the game now takes a long ass time to launch, and alt-tab will always crash. not just when sound breaks.
dunno if sound still breaks, doesn't seem to.

okay nvm, this is weird as forget.
alt-tabbing back in works, it just takes upwards of 40-60 seconds to get out of the not responding state.
fun stuff

going to bump this because nal said he found a fix with an OpenAl download (that he said is working for him so far) that i am going to constantly bug him to post the link here
