Author Topic: Blogland: So, may have fractured my foot by walking...?  (Read 1132 times)

Can't see a doctor until the weekend, so I won't have confirmation until then.

On Monday while walking around the art museum, I noticed that my foot was hurting a bit. As I walked around more, it continued to hurt even more to the point I was limping, and at home I had to rely on holding onto the benches and walls to get around. Tuesday didn't involve any walking, and yet my foot was still in pain and simply hovering it at the wrong angle causes a sharp pain to arise. Today, I was limping all around college, swearing in front of police officers and otherwise in a pretty painful state.

Because of my college commitments and my parent's work schedule, I can't see a doctor until the weekend. I investigated and there are no red marks, no splinters or punctures or any visible damages whatsoever except for a clear bump where the pain of the pain is. My Dad believes it might just be a spur, whereas I think this matches exactly what happened when I caused a greenstick fracture on my right wrist. We won't be able to know for sure until we see a doc if the pain persists.

Any thoughts, Blockland? I might have to use a cane tomorrow to get around.

You sure you haven't bumped it into something, slipped or anything? I once managed to break my toe and arm when I just slipped on ice. It didn't hurt when I fell over, but when I tried to pull myself back up, my arm hurt like hell.

Use your experiences of having an injured foot to make a game about this. A first person one would look really neat with an idea around this.

The only possible thing that may have caused it is that I jumped from a 50cm ledge to the ground, but this was early in the morning and felt no different from any other time I've done it. It is possible, though, with all the running and walking and the amount of pressure I put on my left leg while standing still done on the day, I may have stressed a tiny injury and turned it into something massive. I really can't be sure, though. It doesn't seem right.

Trust me, nobody wants to play Call of Duty: Last Stand simulator. While I can probably use this practical experience when designing what happens when players take damage in their legs, I don't think having a leg injury is itself a good starting point for a game. Thank you anyway.

Call of Duty: Gimp Warfare

I had a similar experience when I jumped off something and landed on my foot wrong. For most of the day I was fine but it progressively deteriorated throughout the day to the point where I couldn't walk on it anymore and needed a friend to support me to the sickbay.

It wasn't broken or fractured, just sprained. Got better after like 4 days. When you go to sleep or get home, try and elevate it I guess or get some ice on it. Is it swollen?

Hi, I wouldn't go anywhere on that thing without crutches; since it will surely get worse.

Is it swollen?
Nope. Just a very small bump that I couldn't even see until I felt it.

I hope it's just a sprain. Friday/Saturday will be good indicators if it's getting better or worse.

If it was a fracture, trust me. You'd be lying in a pool of your own tears. It was probably a fissure or a sprain. Did you bump yourself into something while not noticing? Did some starfish pull a prank on you? Did you go to a sauna and then decided it was a great idea to walk home? Did you drink your milk this morning?

Although you can get fissured by doing mundane tasks, it's very rare unless you have a lack of calcium in your body. It could also be a muscle pull. Can you tell where the pain is comming from? (Don't tell me your foot) Also, what's this "No doctor until x" bullstuff? Things like this should be enough to give you priority in hospitals over other people that go to get checkups.

Not everyone has the same pain limit (Forgot the actual name for it)

Having had a fracture in my wrist before, I think I can determine what the pain is like.

I believe I have a high tolerance for pain. I've done a lot of stupid things in my life and most injuries don't affect me. When I can rip a tooth out of the socket without feeling anything, I don't think a fracture is going to hold me back much more. It does hurt, but it's not enough for me to stop walking completely. I just have to go slower and more carefully.

-No.
-No.
-No.
-I get regular amounts of milk, cheese, other dairy products and vitamin supplements which include dairy.

A small bump (I believe, it may just be an abnormal bump that's always been there and unrelated to this issue) half way length-wise on the left side of my left foot. The pain itself manages to spread over the entire thing, including upto my ankle depending on how I rotate my foot.

I have college, parents have work, and for all I know this is just a simple sprain. I reckon leaving it for a few days is best to completely be sure that it's not something really small. This isn't a result of a virus or toxin which is going to kill me if I don't get treatment. I can survive a bit of pain while walking for a few days.

How long has the pain been here?

And a semi-related note: I've had more than 5 fractures in my life (All of them on my arms) and they still make me fall to the ground in tears.

How long has the pain been here?
Monday, about 3PM. Currently Wednesday 10:05PM. It's still too early to tell.

If it's not completely swollen, you could discard both the fissure and the fracture. It might have been a cramp or a pull if you don't recall getting hit.
