Author Topic: Developing an Interactive Fiction Game  (Read 1966 times)

So some of you might've seen my Dragonslayer thread before. (http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=259684.0)
It was a text-based Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game that spanned over 75 thousand words. This is my next project.

World Map:

Preview:

Defender of Humanity is a planned 150K+ words interactive fiction game. Unlike my last game, I will get 80% - 100% of my profits, rather than 17.5%. It's already about 35 thousand words long, and is written in a totally new scripting language. The advanced framework I've set up allows me to do this not possible in my previous game (like calculate a chance of success).

The online demo can be played here:

(Please report bugs and typos)

If you want to seem my daily log of development (not actually daily, but I try), you can see it here: http://imgur.com/gallery/oSmWV

Please tell me what you think! I want to be a writer.

Make sure to check the consistency of plurals and tenses. Also there are some sentences without context, one example is "Seeing as they would be gone for several months, I was sent to live with my uncle". Who are "they" and why are they gone? Why does it matter to you if they're gone and why does it mean that you have to live with your uncle?

Sentences appear without any context quite a bit. It's what happens when the script accidentally skips over a paragraph for some reason. (usually a typo in the code)

edit: that particular instance has been fixed.

Also liked Dragonslayer quite a bit.

I'm enjoying this so far but please do not call your magic powers '____bending".

Why not? Some people have asked if it's inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender, and it isn't. I could call it '____warping' but that isn't quite as catchy.

Yes it was, lol. Where else do magic techniques named "<natural element>bending" come from?

You should make a game called Corruption of Champions. wink wink

In this game. :)

Mind, Matter, Energy, Shadow, and Time are not natural elements. There is literally nothing similar between them other than the word Bending.

I still think you should change it though since the connection to Avatar is very, very obvious and it comes off kinda fan-fiction-y.

A Nickelodeon Show does not have a monopoly on the term "bending".
