This happens to me to, but it's entirely random when it does.
Good thing is that it's not to frequent
But i'm saving for a new comp so i don't really care

Overall i can't give any help
Giving your computer specs always helps in these threads though

prob a psu issue.
I doubt it, if it was PSU it'd be shutting down completely.

windows 8.1
AMD FX 6300 Hexa-core 3.1GHz
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series 2GB GDDR5
1000W PSU
can't exactly remember what my motherboard is, but it's also AMD.

I custom built this computer last year in August

1000w seems kind of overkill, doesn't it? i could be wrong, and probably am, but it might have something to do with distribution of power.

It is way overkill, but it wouldn't cause this issue

Next time the computer restarts (I think windows 8 has this) go to Event Viewer, Windows Logs, System. Look for anything with a red ! or a yellow caution thingy. If that event took place at the time of the restart then chances are thats what did it.

I doubt this, if it was a problem then it wouldn't have waited this long. I had a 650W for my PC at one time and it caused no problem, and that way a bit of an overkill because my PC only requires about 340.

its only there because i didn't feel like purchasing another PSU when i already have a working one with more than enough wattage.

I found a logged critical failure. The source says Kernel Power. I have no idea what that is.

just googled it. Microsoft website says it is caused by an expected and unclean shutdown in the systems. This can be caused by forcing the computer to shutdown by holding the power button and the computer randomly rebooting.

The random reboot can be caused by power failure, overheating, overclocking, or slow RAM speeds. I'm going to check my temperature and memory speeds.

We could do with more information.
It could be a problem with hardware, overheating, OS or possibly a virus.

It was generated because the system didn't shutdown cleanly.

Is your CPU overclocked? Are your drivers up to date? Do you have ATI HD audio drivers installed?

I should also include that it hasn't rebooted randomly since I stopped Steam from auto-starting.

reinstall os
I don't have a valid copy with me. The hard drive I'm using right now came out of a prebuilt I bought about a year or two ago.

CPU is not overclocked. All drivers are up to date, I think, not sure. How do I check if I have ATI HD audio drivers?
