Author Topic: Why does daylight savings time even exist now?  (Read 2204 times)

Daylight saving is basically that. During the summer, the time is taken back an hour to use the extra time of daylight to avoid illumination costs which are pretty high. During the winter, it's advanced an hour to save the daylight time which is less than in the summer, again, to avoid illumination costs. Some countries don't respect it for various reasons. Argentina, for example, because it was a mess and no one organized themselves making a stuffload of problems. IIRC, some parts of Japan also don't follow it.
But it's spring and it's one hour ahead, not behind. that's why it sucks so much.

So you guys have already gone into Daylight Savings Time?
In the UK and Europe we don't enter BST until March 29th this year.

Autumn here. The day when DST is enabled/disabled depends on your government.

So if the states are going into summer soon, why do we need to save sunlight when we're getting so much more of it??

Used to live in Arizona, so I never ended up using daylight savings time until I was about 11 years old. Then I moved and had to start using it. In all the time I've been using daylight savings time, not once have I forgotten to change the time, and not once has my sleep schedule been messed up because of it. I suppose not everyone's the same, but any flexible person can do it, really. Also, you can at least try to talk to your counselors if you really have that much of an issue with a single tardy.

There is one thing I dislike, though. I move around a lot, and it can be pretty confusing when I'm either right above or driving over a location that does not use daylight savings time. My phone will go crazy changing times back and forth over places that use or don't use DST. That can make it a lot more confusing to tell how much time has passed than without DST. Let's be honest: time zones are about as useless as ever, anyways. I hate the idea that midnight always has to be 12:00 at night, everywhere you go. I personally don't think time should have to do with relative position of the sun at all. But hey, those are just my opinions.

Think of it like this:
During the winter, (I'm using my area as an example), sunlight is between 9:00AM and 6:00PM. DST adds an hour to use that daylight.

During the summer, sunlight is between 6:00AM and 8:00PM. DST removes an hour to use that daylight.

Yes, I know, but the U.S. is doing the reverse right now and it sucks.

to save daylight. it is in short supply these days. have you ever been blamed for not going outside enough these days even though you went out last year once? it is not cause you're a nerd, oh no, it is because there is not enough daylight.

We need to plant more sun-flowers so we can acquire more sunlight.

what we need to do to resolve this issue is pump more carbon into the atmosphere and warm our globe, you see we give carbon to the sun and it burns really hot and gives us more daylight, global warming being bad is a myth. you heard it here first people
